The garden comes before the house.

The main house, the suites and the pool house sit scattered across a large lawn, among yuccas, banana plants and a huge tree covered in lanterns.

Every corner has a place to sit.

Hammocks between the trees, a deck under the bougainvillea, loungers on the lawn and an open pavilion beside the pool.

Late in the afternoon the garden warms up.

The sky turns orange, the white hammocks catch the light and the pool repeats the sunset.

At night the lanterns come on.

Hundreds of straw lanterns and green light in the foliage cover the garden in points of light. The pool lights up with them.

Pool

Fifteen metres of water, just for your group.

The pool is about 15 metres long and only guests use it. By day, the timber deck and loungers surround it, with the pavilion giving shade at one side. Toward evening the water turns deep blue and the pavilion lights come on.

Wellbeing

A Turkish sauna in marble and mosaic.

The Turkish sauna has a marble slab, a niche with a mosaic fountain and a green ceiling. It works after the beach, or instead of it.

King, queen and twin beds, sofa beds and an extra mattress, spread over six bedrooms for families or groups of friends.

Your host

Lilian's travels are inside this house.

Lilian lives in New York and owns Natura Spa, a spa and salon with three locations. Her love for Bahia led her to create retreat houses, first for her children and then for guests.

Furniture, cushions and paintings came from her trips, and a team looks after the house all year. That is where the Turkish sauna, the spa services and the pieces from other places around the rooms come from.

Arraial d'Ajuda

Arraial d'Ajuda sits on the Discovery Coast, across the ferry from Porto Seguro. Vans and motorbike taxis link the centre to the beaches and the nearby villages.
